You probably know that dog boarding is…well, just that - boarding your dog overnight. But night is only a chunk of time out of an entire 24 hours. What do dogs do when they’re not sleeping?
Each doggy hotel and boarding facility is different. Today we’ll explore what dogs do when staying overnight at Houston Bark Park and Daycare.

What Do Dogs Do During the Day When Boarded?
There are a few activities that dogs might do during the day, depending on what their owner has selected and that dog’s preferences. These include:
Daycare
Most of our boarding guests enjoy doggy daycare as well as overnight boarding. A full day of daycare is a jam-packed day full of excitement. It starts with your dog being paired with a custom play group. Each of these groups are determined by size and temperament. We have larger dog groups, small dog groups, and our enrichment groups! We are very proud to say we know each dog individually and consider their play styles and personalities when we place them in a group!
From there, they enter free play. Free play is an open opportunity for outdoor play (for our smalls, we have an indoor area as well). This is pure puppy fun with a naptime at 11:15am. When not napping, pups can play at their own pace with any of our amenities. The most popular are the splash pads, bubble cannons, and wide-open running areas. When they get tired, they can rest on cool pads or other structures throughout the area.
Academy
Some of our overnight guests participate in our academy program instead of (or in addition to) daycare. Academy is a tailored training experience that stretches across the whole day. Activities include individual training and enrichment activities. These are broken up by free play where they interact with the other dogs, nap time at 11:15am and a wind down time at 5:00pm to help relax before bedtime.
Grooming
Dogs may also partake in grooming services while staying overnight. Grooming pairs well with daycare - we’ll give your pup a bath after a day of play for a fresh-smelling pooch. We offer customized grooming services for any level. It can be as simple as an express bath or a full spa experience with full groom, nail trims, ear cleaning, and teeth cleaning.
Enjoy Some Alone Time
At our Energy Corridor location only, we offer boarding-only services. For these dogs, they receive 5 potty breaks a day and daily attention from employees. This is a great option for dogs who enjoy their alone time. They can relax and stretch out in their large rooms, without other pups pestering. For these dogs, they typically spend their day lounging, playing with an employee, and receiving one-on-on cuddling and petting from employees.
Dogs who board overnight do a lot more than just sleep. At Houston Bark Park, we ensure all our overnight guests have plenty to do during the day as well. This helps stave off boredom, provide enrichment, and spread joy. If you’re seeking lodging in the Houston area, explore our dog boarding services.
